My name is Franziska Bishop and I am a mom, wife, nutritionist, clinical researcher, outdoor enthusiast, and wellness-focused Coloradan.
I have started this blog with the idea that there needs to be a place out there that focuses on a balanced approach to eating. We are constantly being inundated with the new diet or the new way to eat and I think we lose focus on making eating about wellness, energy, satisfaction, and joy. Thus the name Just a little chocolate – eat things you love! Nutrition is about balance and being in tune with our bodies and my goal is to help people connect with nutrition and overall wellness.
New – I started this blog back in 2009 and took a break from blogging to have my family – 2 boys now 5 1/2 and nearly 3. It has been a busy 6 years! I am back and focused on wellness and balanced eating more than ever. I am most inspired to blog on what is impacting my life so, while I will continue to focus on balanced nutrition, mindful eating and easy tips and tricks there will be a larger emphasis of applying it to the whole family 🙂 . I have learned a lot since having a family from pregnancy, postpartum, baby weight loss, feeding little ones, athletic training, food restrictions, immune support, and the ever-changing balancing act of life!
We all lead busy lives and nutrition tends to drop off our priority list. We need to refocus on the importance of eating well and small additions and changes to our daily lifestyle can have a big impact. I am still amazed how small changes can have big impacts and my favorite mantra is how you have an opportunity every several hours for a healthy food choice! Nutrition is about giving your body the fuel it needs to accomplish what you want it to accomplish. We feel better, perform better, and are healthier and happier when we consciously fuel our bodies.
A little more about me: I live with my husband of
510 years (and high school sweetheart!)and our amazing boys (ages 5&3) and 5 12 year old English Springer Spaniel “puppy” named Lucy in Longmont Denver, Colorado. I work in research with children with type 1 diabetes with a focus on improving diabetes care for adolescents through behavioral interventions with a focus on empowerment, education, diet, and physical activity. My husband, Will, shares the passion for giving to others and is a marriage and family therapist (http://www.denvercoloradotherapist.com/).
I love fitness and anything that gets and keeps me in shape to run after my boys, ski and hike is a win-win (yoga, high-intensity interval training, running, barre, weights). I am always trying to find and create family friendly recipes, find ways to make shopping, menu planning and creating a wellness-focused home easier and find time to meditate while keeping up with the never-ending laundry pile!
