About
From an early age I was aware of the power of healthy eating and leading an active lifestyle. I have been modifying food recipes and giving healthy eating tips to friends and family for years. I am an avid outdoors woman and love to Telemark ski, backpack, run,
practice yoga, and train for triathlons (that was last summer this summer I am taking more spin classes, and yoga fusion classes like yoga with weights etc – my 5 am and 2 a day trainings were too much for me this summer!).
I completed my B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder and received a Master in Science in Food Science and Human Nutrition at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. I also have a certificate in Public Health from University of Colorado Denver.
I have started this blog with the idea that there needs to be a place out there that focuses on a balanced approach to eating well. We are constantly being inundated with the new diet or the new way to eat and I think we lose focus on making eating about wellness, energy, satisfaction, and joy. Thus the name Just a little chocolate – eat things you love! Nutrition is about balance and being in tune with our bodies and my goal is to help people connect with nutrition.
We all lead busy lives and nutrition tends to drop off our priority list. We need to refocus on the importance of eating well and small additions and changes to our daily lifestyle can have a big impact. Nutrition is about giving your body the fuel it needs to accomplish what you want it to accomplish. We feel better, perform better, and are healthier and happier when we consciously fuel our bodies.
I live with my husband of 5 6 years (and high school sweetheart!), the love of my life, my constant foundation, and truly my best friend and soul mate. We live with our amazing, energetic, lover of life, hater of squirrels, 5 year old English Springer Spaniel “puppy” named Lucy in Longmont, Colorado. I work in research with children with type 1 diabetes with a focus on cardiovascular disease risk factors and diet and physical activity behavior and have a private nutrition counseling and coaching practice in Longmont (www.NutritionbyFranziska.com). I am also a certified spin yoga instructor and teach a weekly nutrition class at Qi Athletic club and Seasons Spin Yoga studio in Denver. My husband, Will, shares the passion for giving to others and is a marriage and family therapist (www.WHBtherapy.com). We work hard during the week and most weekends you can find us in the mountains skiing, backpacking, and loving the outdoor world.
